Thom Wachter

A question of location. ‘Once a winegrower, always a winegrower,’ Thom Wachter realised after the son of a winegrower had examined the world of wine from the perspectives of a wine merchant and restaurateur. When a small winery with the best vineyards in his home region came up for lease in 2015, Thom seized the opportunity.

Thom is now the proud owner of this business with three hectares of vineyards. He leases a further four hectares of vineyards from selected top vineyards. The result is an impressive portfolio that includes the Fasching, Szapary, Saybritz, Königsberg, Ratschen and Weinberg vineyards.

The oldest existing vineyard on the Eisenberg, which was planted in the Szapary vineyard in 1936, is the pearl of the estate and is vinified separately under the label ‘Alter Weingarten’. The vineyard specialist also has a Hungarian Rieden-Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch) in his range.
